Proper health is said to be wealth, and that is why health and fitness are the two most discussed topics in the world today. While there is a lot of information out there on how to be in the pink, it is wise to simplify the process of staying healthy into a few dos and don’ts in life.

Exercise Daily

You can hit the gym if you have the time, but if you are not able, you can exercise at home, on your way to work, at work and virtually everywhere. You just need to stay active. Walk to and from work whenever you can, always take the stairs instead of the elevator, perform household chores at home, and skip the rope. In general, though it is advisable, you don’t always have to go to the gym to exercise.

Meals

You should always make sure that each of your three daily meals is balanced. You need to make breakfast the heaviest meal, followed by lunch and then supper. Eat a lot of fresh fruits, vegetables and drink a lot of water. If possible, you should not skip any meal.

Get Enough Sleep

If you want to live a healthy life, sleep like there is no tomorrow whenever you go to bed. Avoid meals and drinks that enhance alertness just before bedtime. Do not spend too much time on the TV or PC. Let sleep time be sleep time and do not oversleep. Oversleeping has been associated with heart diseases and diabetes, among other risks. Generally, 7-9 hours of sleep are enough as long as you enjoy both REM (Random Eye Movement) and non-REM sleep cycles.

Stay Happy

If you do not love your life, nobody else will enjoy being around you because people do not like being around sad people all the time. Avoid all circumstances that will dampen your spirits and stay motivated. Anticipate the challenges of each day, knowing that your better days are yet to come.

Junk Foods

unhealthy foodYou are what you eat at the end of the day. If you are a fan of junk food, you will be obese before you know it. Therefore, you should avoid these foods like the plague.

Instead, eat wholemeal cereals and insist on home cooked food. Remember that junk food is addictive, so it may be hard to stop once you start.

Avoid Drinking and Smoking

If you are a drunkard, your healthy days are numbered. You are at high risk of catching liver cirrhosis and other similar diseases. Heavy smokers, on the other hand, are exposed to the dangers of lung cancer and other diseases.

Avoid Sugary Snacks

Snacking is generally not good for your health. It increases the total calorie intake per day. Whenever you have to take a mid-morning or afternoon snack for whatever reason, make sure it is not sugary. Sugar may be sweet, but too much of it in the body is fatal.

Be Contented

Desire is a good thing in life and is necessary for growth and development. But too much of it hurts. You can’t have everything you want in life. Neither can you be everything you want to be in life. Therefore, count your blessings every day and let life happen the way it should be Everything in life needs moderation. Even too much happiness kills.
